News portal Kompas.com reported that motorists violated traffic regulations while taking advantage of poor security during the event.
Police were only visible in front of the Bogor State Palace, where they stopped vehicles trying to go through the area.
Sri Rahayu, a resident from Ciluar, North Bogor, complained that pedestrians and cyclists could have been hit by the vehicles.
“Motorists knew what they were in the wrong but they kept insisting pedestrians move aside,” she said.
The Bogor administration holds Car Free Day every Sunday from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m. to accommodate residents who want to jog close to the Bogor Botanical Gardens.
Bogor relaunched the program after the Jakarta administration launched the vehicle-free program, with the stated aim of reducing air pollution in the rainy city. — JP
